I have been smoke free for several years now but when I was still a smoker, trying desperately to quit I did a lot of research on different stop smoking methods. In the end I found a method that worked for me but the truth is that what works for one person does not work for everyone.

The truth about smoking;

Vast majority of smokers want to stop, however the addiction is almost always stronger than the motivation to stop. Most people who quit begin smoking within a month or so. Psychologically, after smoking many cigarettes your daily routine becomes associated with it. For example, if you smoke every time you’re tensed or worried, a minor problem can activate associations to smoke. In the same way, if you smoke first thing in the morning you generally wake up thinking of smoking.

The smoker is fully aware of smoking-related diseases and its effects on his/her health; the addiction is so strong that the smoker subjects himself to the nicotine despite of its ill effects. Smoking-related diseases are usually incurable and the victim may require long term medication. They can be so serious that in the example of lung cancer, almost 90% of all victims will not live past 5 years after the initial diagnosis.

Tips to quit smoking;

We all know about the more traditional methods to stop smoking; the patch, nicotine gum or pills, or going cold turkey.  A lot of people have found success with these methods. However many smokers have tried them and either did not tolerate them well, did not have the money to invest (in the case of the Patch and Nicotine gum and pills), or they simply did not work. These smokers can and have found success with less traditional methods such as NLP.

Support

You have a better chance of kicking the habit if you have the necessary help and support. Participating in a support program maybe more effective than trying to quit on your own.

If you really want to quit smoking, support is the best chance you’ve got, a step in the right direction.

Nicotine replacements

The nicotine replacement therapy is currently available in three forms;

Nicotine transdermal systems or patches, nicotine polacrilex or gum and nicotine lozenges. Nicotine replacements eliminates the habit of smoking not the addiction to nicotine, however it suppresses the withdrawal that can trigger more smoking.

Furthermore nicotine replacements have many side effects and should therefore be consulted with a doctor
