There are many products on the market today claiming to help stop smoking. The question is do any of them work? Scientified studies have shown that nicotine replacement patches provide assistance with stopping smoking. Whilst they are expensive, they are proven to safely reduce teh need for nicotine.

Nasal sprays and nicotine inhalers are also available and should be considered after researching the use of these items. Both are available by prescription. The nasal spray is not for everyone. Those who are seeking to help stop smoking by nasal application will need to be allergy and asthma free, as these conditions affect the delivery of the nicotine in the nasal passage. By delivering the nicotine directly to the lungs, the nicotine inhaler ensures it gets to the bloodstream quicker.

Perhaps you can become a non smoker through some of the stop smoking medications that are available. Some of the drugs originally developed for treating depression have proved remarkably useful in helping people to stop smoking. These same drugs produce the same action as nicotine on the brain by increasing certain chemicals, making us feel good and helping us to focus. These medications can also alleviate any withdrawel symptoms, helping you overcome this addiction.

Something a bit newer on the scene to help stop smoking is Nicotine Anonymous. Following a similar 12 step plan to Alcoholics Anonymous, these types of groups are appearing all over the world. The groups accept that stopping smoking can be difficult and still remain free from the addiction. They are happy to introduce new members to the twelve step program, and encourage that the new member have sponsorship. The provide help in the form of education into the risks associated with smoking. Members believe that in order to stay away from nicotine they need to keep themselves as emotionally and physically healthy as they can.

There is a religious undertone to these help stop smoking groups. If you are comfortable with a higher power then you will probably be open to the steps and expectations of the group. Some groups prefer not to use stop smoking aids whereas others are happy for any help they can get. The program is free and does offer a great support system. If you have been involved with other twelve step programs then you are likely to do well with this one also. If you are in touch with your spirituality or wish to become more in tune with your spiritual nature while beating the addiction, this may be the way for you!
