One’s failure to quit smoking can be attributed to deeply buried principles that may be difficult to erase.  Indeed, abandoning this unhealthy habit is a matter of changing one’s mentality.  Let’s discuss 10 ways to quit smoking.  Also, know that there is no single best way to quit smoking.

1. Learn about the several dangers of smoking.  A great majority smokers don’t quit because they are not aware of the dangerous effects of smoking.  Worse, most smokers already know the perils of smoking, but they cling to the false belief that they’re not real – that is, until the time comes when they develop the particular ailment or disease themselves.

2. Always tell yourself that you’re not immune from ailments and diseases.  You’re a mere mortal.  You’re no alien from a dead world.  Your system is susceptible to wear and tear, and smoking multiplies that number tenfold.  You’re not exempt from the dangers of smoking.  You’re no different from anybody else: human.

3. Know that you are stronger than how you think you are.  You don’t have to surrender to the slightest desire to smoke.  If another person asks you to jump in front of a rampaging herd of elephants, will you?  You’re not that stupid, right?  Hence, you’re not stupid enough to throw away seven minutes of your life with every stick you smoke.

4. Never view a stick of cigarette as a prize.  It hardly is.

5. Know that smoking doesn’t make you hip.  In this day and age when people would rather enjoy great health and live a long life, smokers are seen as pathetic.

6. Realize that though smoking may help you get rid of stress, it will come at a costly price.  The perils of smoking are too big to neglect.  Would you rather enjoy a few stress-free minutes at the expense of a lot of years deducted from your life?

7. No one ever said that you should smoke after taking a meal.  Smoking won’t eliminate the taste of food in your mouth.  Want to get rid of the same?  Try brushing your teeth.

8. Realize that when you smoke in a communal place, you’re killing people.  Second-hand smoke is just as dangerous as the smoke you inhale.  When you smoke in a public venue, you similar to a symbol of death and disease.

9. Realize that smoking won’t help you lose weight.  Cigarettes burn your lung, not your calories.

10. Tell yourself that smoking won’t help you keep your focus at work.  It’s just a mind thing.  Everything depends on you and not what you take in.
