How to Stop Smoking for Good

In order to help make sure that you succeed in your next, and final, attempt to quit smoking there are a couple of things which you should truly keep in mind.  Setting yourself up to achieve success is not something that should happen by accident.

If you need to stop smoking for good, you’ll need to make some conscious decisions that has got to be followed.  If you wake up each morning with the objective of attempting to avoid cigarettes and no real plan on how to basically avoid cigarettes, you may realize that you are smoking again extraordinarily quickly .

At the start, you will find that you are doubtless afraid of quitting.  While you can be sure that quitting smoking is the smart choice for your health it’s a habit which has come to be a big comfort to you.  Quitting is so frightening that you even start to work yourself up over it, making yourself convinced that you can’t truly stop smoking and that you shouldn’t even attempt such a thing.

The straightforward answer is that letting yourself believe you’ll fail will result in failure.  If you suspect that you can succeed, you will find it way easier to stop smoking for good.

Your primary step should be selecting a particular date that you would like to stop smoking.  This may be any date that you please, but unlike that fad diet you always intend to try out, this date should actually come.

Once the date comes, you need to make sure that your buddies and family are behind you for encouragement.  This will help you to keep your willpower up whenever you feel that you are going to fully lose control.  As a great step in the right direction, you could even avoid getting new cigarettes if you’re out, or destroy any that you presently have in your possession.

As a hint, if the cigarettes are in the cabinet in the kitchen or the sitting room but not physically on you, then yes they do still count as being in your possession.  You must remove everything smoking related from your house.  This includes matches, lighters, ashtrays, and all cigarettes.

Be sure to clean everything in your house if you can, especially bed sheets and drapes.  Anything that smells like smoke should be cleaned.  This may clear your house and get it smelling fresh and clean.  This fantastic new smell can go a long way towards warding off cigarettes as you will not wish to smoke in a clean house and ruin the fresh smell.

Make a reward system for yourself.  A good place to start would be a minuscule reward after your first 24 hours with no cigarettes.  Then move onto two days, then a few days, then a week, 2 weeks, a month, 2 months and that kind of stuff.  These small rewards will help you to remain motivated to stop smoking as the current gets difficult and your willpower starts to reduce.

If you give into the enticement, you lose out on your reward.  This is going to be painful in order to be handy.  If you are a big sports fan, you may buy yourself season tickets for your favorite team.  Each time you meet a goal, you go to a game, which can inspire you to stay on track so you may use those fantastic tickets.

Having your goals written down is another neat way to successfully quit smoking.  There’s something about writing down goals that just makes them more important.  If you’re just walking around with your goals and rewards in your head it is easy to switch the rules as you go along.

If your goals are written on paper, it’s a lot easier for someone in your circle of relatives to help hold you responsible.  Additionally, this could make it seem much more reasonable to really stop smoking.  Talking about giving up smoking can sound really frightful, but viewing it written down on paper can be a reminder just how easy the process actually is.
