Help To Quit Smoking : Your Support Options

Quitting a smoking habit can be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do so if you need help to quit smoking don’t feel bad,  go ahead and get as much help as you need.Get as much moral support from your immediate family and companions at home by informing them of your plan to break the habit and quit entirely..   Then you want to either:

  • go on vacation during your attempt to quit
  • join a smoking cessation group,  online,  locally or even get support though a quit smoking telephone help service
  • shake up your routine a bit with some healthy outdoor and / or relaxation activities such as biking,  nature hikes,  brisk walking,  breathing exercises,  yoga,  Pilates etc
  • think about what you want to avoid then tell you family and friends so they can help you avoid these things as well,  like alcoholic or caffeinated beverages,  sugary foods and high fat,  salty foods
  • exchange some of the activities you normally do while smoking with healthier ones like reading,  writing or drawing instead of watching TV

It’s also good to remember that you’ll probably find yourself a bit more tired when you’re trying to quit smoking.   If you can, to get a bit more help to quit smoking,  see if you can delegate some of your usual work load or responsibilities onto someone else who either wouldn’t mind or doesn’t have that much to do as this can be a very effective way to get you a little extra time for relaxation.

If you don’t want to take any of the nicotine ‘medicines’,  you can instead try some of the many natural stress remedies that can significantly help ease the irritation and craving factors while you’re trying to quit.   Here are several of the options you can try:

  • acupuncture and acupressure (ask a specialist about the ‘nicotine’ point located in the ear)
  • skullcap and Valerian tea for relieving tension and nervous upset
  • cinnamon flavored gum or lobelia tea for reducing cravings
  • aromatherapy using one or more of these essential oils,  bergamot,  black pepper,  roman chamomile,  ylang ylang or frankincense

You can apply these essential oils to a blank inhaler or a tissue stored in a zip-lock bag and take a whiff any time you get a craving.

Quitting smoking is not as difficult as you think it will be as there are various options and supports you can use to help you quit..
