The search is on for a way to stop smokingthat really works.

Are you looking for a way to stop smoking that is healthy way, is successful in helping people to stop smoking and remain smoke free, and that is affordable?

Most ex-smokers agree there isn’t a stop smoking magic method that works for anyone who uses it. You have to find the way to stop smoking that IS going to work for YOU.

There are four different types of methods to stop smoking aside from “cold turkey.” These ways to stop smoking include: medication, NRT’s, support groups, and alternative methods.

Each way to smop smoking has a different success rate, with some success rates better than others. Yet, many times, if one method is used with another way to stop smoking, the success rate is higher.

Below are short descriptions of 4 different ways to stop smoking:

Stop Smoking support groups- Like A.A: There are groups for smokers who want to quit that offer support from others who are after the same goal. These support groups can be quite helpful because you receive tips and tricks from others who have succeeded in their efforts to become smoke free.

Studies vary for the success rates of support groups, yet if combined with another smoking cessation program the success rates are very high.

Medication: By using Chantix, the rate of individuals who successfully quit are at around 44%. Those who use the medication Zyban have rates at around 15-25%.

The benefits behind these medications are that you are not adding more nicotine into the body. The downfalls are that there are side effects such as dizziness, loss of appetite, and many more. Please speak with your Doctor about finding which medication is right for you.

NRT’s: This method includes the patch, gum, inhaler, lozenges, and spray. They replace the nicotine that you would get from smoking a cigarette. These may be a good choice because it helps people ease the withdrawal symptoms that you get when you cease smoking all together.

The success rate of this way to stop smoking is about 33% for those who use NRT’s correctly. Some are prescribed by your Doctor, such as the inhaler and spray, and other NRT’s can be found over the counter (OTC).

The downfall is that you may become addicted to the medication instead of the cigarettes.

Alternative methods: These ways to stop smoking include hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and natural herbs to help curb the sensation to smoke. These methods were rated the least affective out of all of them, with an 8% success rate.

Remember the above are all great ways to stop smoking – you just need to find the BEST way for YOU.
