4 Things You Need to Know to Put Down the Cigarettes – For Good!

We’ve heard it all before. Its more addictive that heroin, the hardest habit to quit, but the worst habit to start. It kills more than cancer and car crashes. It will cost us more in a lifetime than our home.

We’ve tried it all before. The Patch, the gum, cold turkey, putting an elastic on your wrist to snap yourself, throwing out your ashtrays. We have all heard that it takes 7 or more attempts for a person to finally quit smoking.

Quitting smoking. We’ve heard it all.

But when it comes to stopping a habit, any habit, there are 4 lies we have all been told, which is why it is so hard to quit.

1. Quitting Smoking is Harder than ending a Heroin Addiction- This statement just sets us up for failure. When you approach something that everyone is telling that is “going to be so hard” “almost impossible” its hard not to get discouraged and overwhelmed. Where does the truth in this statement come from? Have you ever seen anyone go into shock and need morphine when coming down off of…..nicotine? No. How many rehab facilities are there for nicotine addicts? Zero. How many people have sold their possessions so just one sweet, sweet hit of nicotine? None.

2. Find Out What Triggers You to Smoke and Avoid That - We all have MAJOR triggers that trigger us to smoke like drinking, or excessive stress. But if your more than a “social” smoker, think about when do you smoke? When you with people? by yourself? when your stressed? when your bored? when your hungry? when your full? Did you notice that you answered “yes” to all of these. Did you also notice that these feeling oppose each other?

3.Start by weening yourself off cigarettes with a substitute - The patch, the inhaler, the gum… there seem to be endless new, less harmful, ways of putting nicotine into our bodies everyday. So even if there are options out there, why do cigarettes still exsist and are, by far, the most popular choice? The truth is, with any chemical addiction, you cannot end the addiction by taking the drug in another form. So if you stop smoking and start injecting nicotine straight into veins, guess what? Your still addicted.

3.Once you Quit, You have to Quit For Good – This is just a recipe for disaster. Look at this statement! This is telling you that if you smoke once, game over, you fail. Everyone has set backs and failures when they try to adopt a new habit. When you fall, dust yourself off and get back on the wagon. Its not the end of the world, so what if you fall once or 100 times. The point is that your still trying.

So now you know what to keep in mind when your ready to put down the cigarettes. Whats important to keep in mind, when you or your love ones decide to let go of this habit, is that it smoking is a habit. Likewise, non-smoking is a habit. It takes 28 days to form a new habit.

There is a proven technique to form a new habit. Writing is down daily, making a checklist and meditating or thinking about you new habit.

Writing it down makes the habit real to you. Checking off your new habit daily reinforces your success and makes you feel good when you accomplish your new goal. Meditating may sound daunting, but its really simple using guided meditation, like Wayne Dyer or The Silva Method to reinforce to your subconscious of your new habit.

With this positive information and new outlook of starting a new habit – the habit of non-smoking- I wish you the best and I am sure you will be successful.
